Asheville Community Acupuncture

Childbearing Cycle - Fertility, Pregnancy & Postpartum

All of our providers at Asheville Community Acupuncture are well trained and licensed to safely administer treatments to pregnant women. Acupuncture may be supportive in achieving fertility, managing common complaints of pregnancy and the postpartum period.

We recommend acupuncture for many common complaints in pregnancy, including: nausea, morning sickness, body aches, headaches, insomnia, heartburn and skin rashes.

Acupuncture is also supportive in preparing the body for labor. Women frequently visit us for help if they are getting pressure from their medical provider to induce labor. Studies have even demonstrated the efficacy of acupuncture in ripening the cervix.

Moxibustion has a long history of use for turning breech babies. Moxa is the herb mugwort. Moxibustion is the burning of this herb near acupressure points. We stock our herbal pharmacy with moxa (see image above) and are happy to assist clients in learning how to safely use moxibustion. The ideal time to turn a breech is before the last month of pregnancy.

We have providers that work with optimizing fertility and rebalancing the body after the baby has arrived. Chinese Medicine is a wonderful resource for the child-bearing cycle. Feel free to call us if you have questions or are interested in additional information.
